Dinosaurs in Party Hats… a.k.a. ECHO’s 10th Birthday

When was the last time you saw a velociraptor wearing a party hat?

Well, for me, it was earlier this evening at ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center’s 10th birthday party. I volunteer there once a week, so I was invited along with all the other staff and volunteers and their guests. It was a fun evening with the usual — cake, “Happy Birthday,” and chatting — and the unusual… like dinosaurs in party hats.

Me being me, I found them too funny not to share.

So, here’s a velociraptor wearing a party hat:

(Sorry the video may be a bit shaky — I was doing this all on my iPad, not with a news camera and tripod.)

And the Oviraptor, also festive and making funny noises:

And a snippet from the exhibit, comparing a Tyrannosaurus rex skull (front right) to a Gigantosaurus skeleton:

In the background, in case you were wondering, is a Mapusaurus, which in my opinion are scarier because fossil evidence suggests they looked like smaller T-Rexes — and they hunted in packs.

I will throw this photo in as a bonus (taken on a day I was volunteering…). Rawr!

WCAX “Scary Gary” Halloween Forecast 10/31/12

Halloween is a pretty fun holiday. A holiday made even more so when your meteorologist has a sense of humor.

Every year Gary does his “Scary Gary” Halloween forecast. It involves wrapping himself in a green cloth (except for his head) and then telling us what the weather will be like between different spooky-named places in the country. And of course everything culminates in a trick-or-treat forecast for the kids.

It’s ridiculous and 100 percent fantastic. Some of our viewers always write in and tell us their kids look forward to this morning all year because they find Scary Gary so funny.

And really — after watching that — who can argue with them?
