Dinosaurs in Party Hats… a.k.a. ECHO’s 10th Birthday

When was the last time you saw a velociraptor wearing a party hat?

Well, for me, it was earlier this evening at ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center’s 10th birthday party. I volunteer there once a week, so I was invited along with all the other staff and volunteers and their guests. It was a fun evening with the usual — cake, “Happy Birthday,” and chatting — and the unusual… like dinosaurs in party hats.

Me being me, I found them too funny not to share.

So, here’s a velociraptor wearing a party hat:

(Sorry the video may be a bit shaky — I was doing this all on my iPad, not with a news camera and tripod.)

And the Oviraptor, also festive and making funny noises:

And a snippet from the exhibit, comparing a Tyrannosaurus rex skull (front right) to a Gigantosaurus skeleton:

In the background, in case you were wondering, is a Mapusaurus, which in my opinion are scarier because fossil evidence suggests they looked like smaller T-Rexes — and they hunted in packs.

I will throw this photo in as a bonus (taken on a day I was volunteering…). Rawr!

WCAX Day of Service PKG 1/19/13

Continuing with my backlog of work that I haven’t uploaded yet from when my computer was on the fritz, this was a Saturday reporter shift that I filled in on the weekend before President Obama’s inauguration on Martin Luther Jr. Day.

It was a pretty slow day, so I did the feature piece on the National Day of Service, finding a volunteer group in Burlington. It aired at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. on January 19 on WCAX.

I thought it was a good feature — I remember not having an awesome standup day that day either, but I made it work in the end. I hadn’t really done standup closes too much before.
